How much oxygen can you consume?
VO2max is the maximum amount of oxygen your body can consume during exertion. It is the gold standard for assessing aerobic capacity and a key indicator of endurance potential.
Measuring your engine
VO2max represents the size of your aerobic engine. A higher VO2max means you can sustain higher intensity for longer.
Professional cyclists achieve values of 70-90 ml/kg/min, while an average untrained male reaches around 35-40 ml/kg/min. The good news: VO2max can be raised to a higher level with proper training.
Typical VO2max values
Values in ml/kg/min for males. Females typically have 10-15% lower values.
How the test works
Ramp test to exhaustion with gas analysis.
Preparation
Test equipment setup and VO2 analyzer calibration.
Warm-up
10 min easy warm-up.
Ramp test
Gradual intensity increase.
Analysis
Data processing and threshold determination.
Important: The test is maximal — prepare for an effort to exhaustion. However, it is safe and supervised.

Combination with INSCYD
VO2max and ventilatory thresholds are just one component. For a complete picture, you also need VLamax. INSCYD gives you a full metabolic profile in a single test.

The test is safe for healthy individuals. We complete a short health questionnaire before the test. If you have heart or lung conditions, medical clearance is required.
48h without intense training, light meal 2-3h before the test, no caffeine 4h before, well hydrated. Bring your bike and cycling clothing.
Partly yes. Genetics determine your potential. However, most people don't reach their potential. With proper training, you can improve VO2max by 15-20% or more.
VO2max tells you how big your engine is. INSCYD also tells you how efficient it is — whether you're consuming too much glycogen, where your thresholds are, and what limits you.
